SUPER BOWLING
I assum we will be watching the Super Bowl together this year as usual, but just realized that we have not figured out where to watch it yet. I would volunteer my place, but do you all think there is enough space? I imagine the Super Bowl watchers would be many and I'm not sure my apt. can comfortably fit everyone.

Blogging Like A Mother Fucker
That's right, kids. I'm blogging now. After multiple misguided and misfired attempts, I am officially part of the blogging world. (Thank you Jon and Sol). So with a new attitude and a new name, I presnet my first post:
FREE DINNER
For those of you who haven't yet heard, Paul and Peggie Sandler (my folks) are coming into NYC on 2 Feb and are prepared to buy you all dinner. So mark your schedules. And tell me who's in. Details to follow.

Freddy
Kick off time for the superbowl is roughly 6:30. So I think we should play football at 2 in order to have a healthy cushion before gametime.
Where we play, I think, should be contigent upon where we watch the game. Has anybody volunteered their place? Does anybody have any ideas for bars that won't be absurdly over-crowded?

"The Amazing Renana"
Pakistani Tea House
In case you haven't been it's a small place just north of Reade St on Church. Avoid during peak lunch hours (12-2) unless you're planning on take-out. The food happens to be cheap and good. Of almost equal importance is that they put pitchers of water in the bottom of the fridge where coke and snapple are also readily available. Today I had about 6 plastic dixie cups of water with lunch without having to get up and refill at a soda fountain where the water invariably has a slight Hi-C flavor.
John Roebling, better known as the architect and engineer of the brooklyn bridge, upon having his foot crushed refused medical attention and insisted instead on poring water continuosly over his foot. That it turns out didn't work too well and he died of tetanus. His son Washington took over and completed the bridge.
Henry Wirz, the only Confederate soldier executed in the aftermath of the American Civil War for war crimes, was a self-taught water-cure specialist.

Bloggy-gog!
ITEM!
Raju on fashion??
I've always enjoyed Raju's scathing critiques of the clothing choices of his friends. Clearly, this is something that needs to be moved to the blog.

I am the Public Editor!
Since this is a blog, I'm going to talk about the media now. The New York Times' coverage of the Bush administration's decision to move the NSA wiretapping program "under" FISA has been appalling. It is totally unclear, based on the facts that have been made public, exactly what the relationship between FISA and the wiretapping program will be. The Times suggests that the Bush administration decided to let FISA resume its role as the only body legally empowered to issue secret warrants. But for all that is now known, it is just as likely that FISA has simply taken it upon itself to rule that this wiretapping program is legal (a move of disputable constitutionality). If the latter is in fact the case, the Bush administration did not "Retreat Under Pressure," as the Times headline announces. Instead, it found a way to work around the Congress and avoid a series of lawsuits, while continuing its wiretapping program. That would not be a retreat but a victory. Again, it is unclear exactly what has changed with the NSA program--but the Times' coverage makes dangerous and possibly misleading assumptions.
When they issue retractions, remember--you heard it here first!!

Feldman's 28th Birthday Dinner
Here we are celebrating Josh Feldman's Birthday at Mama Mexico (1/13/07). Over 25 people came out to celebrate with Josh. Once again, Julie did a wonderful job organizing a great bash. Nothing better than tons of Mexican food, Mariachi band playing, tons of guacamole, sangria and tequila by the pitcher.

Jack Bauer is Back - 24 Season Premiere
We all know that Season 6 is starting this Sunday (1/14/07 @ 8pm). Jack Bauer is an unofficial member of JJ8 family. He is the long lost brother of Stomper McDaniels and distant cousin of Wesley Willis. When we last saw Jack...he was captured by Chinese Government Officials for launching an attack on a Chinese embassy in LA and assassinating a Chinese diplomat.
Trailers have shown us that Jack while in captivity has grown a beard just like our own 'BAMA.' MBL has posed the question when the new day (season six) starts...how long after the new day starts will Jack have shaved his unruly beard. Assuming the new day starts at 6am...please share your guess in the comments section. Also, feel free to render any guesses on what will happen this season. Remember: DO NOT GIVE ANY SPOILERS!

Sunday Football!
ITEM!
Wings! Beer! Football!
For anyone interested in doing the wings/beer/football thing on Sunday, I've made a reservation at Mudville 9 at 4:00 for Pats v. San Diego (aka Whale's Vagina). All are welcome!
ITEM!
Great T-Shirt!
The golden age of snappy t-shirt messages is pretty much over. These days, eleven year-old girls wear "Look but Don't Touch" t-shirts, and scrawny white guys have the "Welcome to the Gun Show" [w. arrows pointing to "biceps"] t-shirt.
However, I did see one t-shirt that is worth mentioning: A blind guy wearing a "Self-Taught Doctor" t-shirt. I don't know what it means, but I know that guy is a badass.

Gabi Leaving L.A. and Returning to Brooklyn, NY
Dear All,
In an unusual and slightly ridiculous turn of events, I will be moving back to New York in about a month. The short hand story is, I got a really fantastic job offer that was too good to pass up (just when I was getting comfortable). Anyway, the bigger issue is I now need to find an apartment.
So, I’m hoping some of you may be in the know since it is extremely hard to find apartments from 3000 miles away.
Ideally I’m looking in the following places (Brooklyn):
Williamsburg
Fort Greene
Prospect Heights
Park Slope
Boerum Hill
Brooklyn Heights
I’m working on Bleecker and Broadway so bonus points for anything near a N, R, Q or F train.
I’m looking to have a roommate and spend 1000 or less on my share (insert joke about Kansas here). Moving in some time around the beginning of February. But if you hear of a smoking deal on a single, beggars can’t be choosers.
Thanks, and I’ll see you all soon.
Gabi
YEAH GUMBQ!!!
Next year it will be bigger and better.
And now for a Haiku:
I love GUMBQ
I am so happy when there

First Annual New Year's GumBQ
Above are pictures from our first annual New Year's GumBQ Bash in Prospect Park.
We had a wonderful time drinking molt cider (w/tequila) and eating Gumbo. Night football was fun. Christy was the star of the game...returning a kickoff to put her team into scoring position and securing the win. The night ended with fireworks and champagne bringing in the New Year - 2007!
