This is a real headline.

Increasingly, it seems reality is beating the onion to the punch.

5 Dollars or 6 Miles

Alright, fellow JJ8'ers, it's time to live up to our youthful idealism and (mostly) liberal political beliefs.

I'm participating in AIDS Walk NY on Sunday, May 18 and would appreciate any donations, money or time, to help find a cure for or better treatment of AIDS.

You can donate money here: http://aidswalknewyork2008.kintera.org/faf/r.asp?t=4&i=262058&u=262058-213168123&e=1661399335

Or go to http://www.aidswalk.net/newyork/index.html and register to walk or volunteer.

Maybe a JJ8 Team would be in order? We all need to limber up for the Roommate Olympics in June. Also, there will be Bloody Marys and Mimosas and chain smoking with my cute, young, politically-minded Scholastic co-workers after.

"With only 3% of the nation's population, New York City has more than 15% of AIDS cases and has the nation's highest AIDS case rate. As many as 163,000 New Yorkers are living with HIV infection. The HIV/AIDS epidemic is not only greater in New York City than other parts of the United States, it is far more complex. HIV/AIDS in New York City in intrinsically intertwined with the epidemics of substance use, homelessness, tuberculosis, poverty and issues relating to mental health."

Random night invades the blog!!!!

One night, in a far away land called NYC, Mysteria lured two Scandinavian girls from the cozy sawdust confines of McSorley's to the apartment of a friend in the hopes that one of her friends might express his attraction to one of the girls. Instead, her friend hung out with the other guys on the couch while Mysteria scampered around the apartment taking pictures with the Scandinavian girl's fantastic camera. One day, the lovely northerner emailed the pictures to Mysteria. The end.

Bill "I Love You" Buckner

The photo on the left represents the defining moment of Bill Buckner's life. That error resulted in 22 years of malicious persecution by a media and fan base with wide national exposure. The photo on the right is from yesterday when Bill Buckner threw out the first pitch as part of the opening day ceremonies celebrating last year's championship. Forgiveness all around. Sports can be cruel, and the masses are irrational. I'm not going to malign Boston sports fans for their treatment of Bill over these last 22 years, nor their change of heart. What is absurd are all those Boston fans calling up the talk shows to sermonize Red Sox Nation on how badly Bill was treated. Huh? And what's even more absurd is that it took, not one, but TWO World Series victories to get to this point.

The interesting thing was Bill's quote.

"I really had to forgive, not the fans of Boston, per se, but I would have to say in my heart I had to forgive the media."

Yeah. F-you media...Especially you Dan Shaughnessy!
