I *do* want to read Joe's dissertation, but a couple of thoughts:
-If it were my team, of course I'd rather lose in 7 than 7-0 in 5. That was a ridiculous comeback, and it's gotta make you proud of your team regardless.
-The Rays are really fucking good, and will be for some time if they keep this core together. I would say it took balls to have a kid who made his major league debut a month ago closing game 7, but the guy's a beast already.
-The sad (for Joe)/delightful (for me) side effect of the Sox finally winning twice in 3 years is that now the "please god ANYONE but them" stuff that was exclusive Yankee property for so many years is now being directed at both sides. To paraphrase a young JMF, drowning his '97 sorrows in Freshens, get used to people cheering for the hunter who just shot your dog. It's lonely at the top.
no way. As mattie-o say, the Rays were really good, and it took a herculean effort for them to win. Their man-child pitcher had the game of his life and they made plays when they needed them. The red sox gave us an all-time memory in the comeback game. Yes I wish they won. But getting abused in 5? not a chance.
i'm sure it's better to lose in seven than five, but geez. game 5's miraculous comeback feels a lot like endy chavez's spectacular series' saving catch in 2006. it's all a bit empty and mets fans know that any feelings of elation over what happened in game 5 will be accompanied by feelings of sorrow that the team, more or less, wasted the effort.
I admit, my question was largely motivated by a desire to tweak Red Sox fans. It wasn't very nice, but it pains me to see giant pictures of celebrating Red Sox on the blog, so, I felt it was in bounds.
Having said all that, I am sincerely curious to read Joe's dissertation on the season.
Are you serious?
ReplyDeleteI'll answer the question if everyone is prepared for a dissertation about the 2008 baseball season.
