And Now We Know How Truly Doomed the Mets Really Were

If your GM has it in him to actively cheat on his wife with a girl like this, your team is not going to win championships.

(I know the article says he's taking a leave from ESPN, and that he has since been fired...this article had the most gorey details, though.)

  1. As my friend Cary said, it is now obvious that Phillips' "talent evaluation" skills are severely lacking.

Also related: interesting tidbit last week from Keith Law about how Phillips once offered to trade a then-19 year old David Wright straight up for Jose Cruz, Jr., and Ricciardi passed. I'm not sure who looks worse in retrospect.

  2. how do the mets not fire manuel and rectify phillips' mistake of getting rid of valentine. my prediction: with valentine, the mets win the division. without, they miss the playoffs.

  3. Talent evaluation...that's hilarious.

That would actually be an interesting study, though. How well do GMs' spouses/partners/significant others correlate with team success?
