ROOMMATE OLYMPICS 2008

THE ROOMMATE OLYMPICS (June 13-14):
Mission statement: to establish beyond a reasonable doubt the brightest star of the roommate & former roommate firmament.

Bounty: the combined pot of entrance fees ($10 per team), possibly a trophy

The Events: As you know, the roommate Olympics is by tradition, a two-day decathlon. The list below was compiled based on feedback, a balance of type, past enthusiasm, and feasibility. Everything should be self-explanatory. Pictionary/Charades was a pseudo biathlon mentioned. I was thinking you could decide whether to act or draw. Maybe before the clue is given. Non-competing organizers are listed where necessary.

Day 1 Indoor (we'll say Track day):
Mario Kart
Trivia Contest (org)
Pictionary/Charades
NewlyWed Game
Bowling

Day 2 Outdoor (we'll say Field day)
Horse
Dodgeball
Taboo
Egg Toss
Scavenger Hunt (org)

Scoring: for first 5 places (10, 8, 5, 3, 1)

I will Need:
-Your Pairings as a participants (submit by email). Right now I have from the 04 edition:
Gabi & Josh
John & Ben
Adz & Nad
Schwartz & Joe
Ashley&Sol
Dave& Hubert

-Petitions for/against events (There is no drinking game as of yet)
-The Emails of anyone else that should get this information.
-Anything else you think could spice up the event (opening/medal ceremonies, flags, Theme songs (anthems), food).

LET ME KNOW SOON SO WE CAN GET THIS WRAPPED UP. T-MINUS 2.5 WEEKS!!

  1. IN: Josh and Gabi, obviously.

Suggestion: Each team picks a theme song, provides it as an MP3, and it's played whenever the team takes first place in an event, medal ceremony style.

  2. Also, key question: If we play Mario Kart, is Josh S. banned from making z-turns, as he was for all of college? IMHO, he should be. It's like steroids--some things just aren't allowed.

  3. Another key question: Are the Olympics Thurs/Fri, June 12/13, or Fri/Sat, June 13/14?

  4. If you're looking for a Pictionary/Charades combo, I humbly suggest Pop 5 from the makers of Cranium.

It's basically Cranium stripped off all of its pointlessness and streamlined into pure competition.

  5. I think Wii Tennis should be replaced by Wii Bowling or Tetris.

Mario Kart on the Wii will be a randomizing factor...with bikes and new courses thrown into the mix.

What kind of trivia questions are going to be asked?

Is Sheila helping out with the Scav Hunt?

  6. Also, I'd suggest changing the event roster as follows, so that Day 1 (Friday) is all in-door, evening-friendly activities, and Day 2 (Saturday) all physical/outdoor activities.

    (*ed events moved)

    Day 1:
    Wii Tennis
    Trivia Contest (org)
    NewlyWed Game
    *Mario Kart
    Pictionary/Charades
    *Taboo

    Day 2
    *Horse
    Dodgeball
    Egg Toss
    Scavenger Hunt (org)

Maybe we should add an event to Day 2, and cut one from Day 1, so that we have five and five. I recently played in an Ultimate tournament where they had an event we could adapt or use on Day 2: a slip&slide/chug a beer/spin in a circle ten times race.

  7. IN- Nad and Adz

    1. What happened to dance dance revolution? I'm ging to try and find it.

    2. I also liked the air hockey component at that gaming place near Sol and Ashleys

3.I agree that we replace Wii Tennis with Wii bowling.

    4. I do not know how to play mario cart, so I guess nad and I will have to draw from there.

    5. Drinking games...hmmm, perhaps fri night? or at the end sat? Or we can just party sat with alcohol. Venue? Prospect park BBQ?

    6. I aggree with Josh F. to make and indoor and an outdoor day.

OK, let me know if you need any help planning.

  8. I think we should do only one video game event (so Mario Kart or Wii Something but not both). And YES to air hockey--that is key.

  9. http://www.ddrfreak.com/locations/locations.php?action=displayState&stateID=34

Anyone know of any of these locations? 8th Ave in BK is close or not?

We could also do.. REAL BOWLING (not Wii) at port authority, or BK.

We could mix DDR (dance, dance revolution) and bowling.

Just an option that I think would be HILARIOUS!

  10. Wii Bowling is fine. Tetris is too slow, and only allows for 2 players.

Why would we do Friday Saturday rather than Saturday-Sunday?

  11. Chaucer is here only on fri and sat that week. Boooo

  12. IN: Ben&Jon

    1. I'm big time in favor of real bowling rather than wii bowling -- could be a great kickoff or finale event for day1, the indoor day.

    2. As the bowling alley in BK serves pitchers, this could provide a nice segue to/from a drinking event.

    3. We need a drinking event.

  13. All I'll say is that IF I participate and IF my partner is my current roommate, live bowling is such a lock that I'm pretty sure I could sit it out and we'd still win.

    That said, I'm probably out.

  14. matti-o. how can you be out w that challenge put on the table?!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well it wasn't so much a challenge as a statement of fact...the guy's rolled a perfect 300 on four separate occasions!

But yeah...there's a free show in the park on Saturday that I wanna go to, plus I'm the least competitive person on the planet.
